# Get Started

TSM uses a BYOK model for the expensive parts of the stack. That keeps user credentials local while preserving a free, open news surface.

## What is free?

- the news terminal
- public information feeds
- pages that do not need premium provider access

## What is BYOK?

Bring your own key means the browser vault stores provider credentials locally. The app can then forward those keys only when the user asks for a feature that needs them.

## What is guest mode?

Guest mode is for limited shared access when the operator intentionally keeps a small server-side key around for a provider with generous limits or strong caching behavior.

## Why this split?

It reduces dependency, keeps costs predictable, and lets the platform stay useful even if a user never adds a key.
